Consultation Fees
Medicare
Clients can access up to 10 Medicare-funded sessions of psychotherapy per calendar year. To access Medicare-funded services you will require a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP (or another nominated medical professional). A MHTP will provide you with a partial rebate for your sessions (currently $149.05).
Jay can provide your Medicare rebate straight back onto your card if you attend your session in-person. If you attend via Telehealth, he can process your Medicare rebate manually and it should arrive back in your account within 2-3 business days.
Cost: $240 (out of pocket = $90.95)
Private Sessions
The fee for private sessions is $240. You may be entitled to a partial rebate through your private health fund, but this will vary based on your level of cover. Please enquire with your private health fund about your eligibility for rebates. We can provide you with an invoice for the session that you can use to claim a rebate from your insurance company.
Cost: $240
Workers Compensation
To access sessions through Workers Compensation (or for motor vehicle accidents) you will need approval for psychology sessions from your insurance company. Your insurance company will need to supply approval for sessions prior to your initial appointment. We can then claim payment for the session from your insurance company – there is no direct charge to you for sessions under Workers Compensation. However, sessions will only be available under Workers Compensation if they are currently approved by your insurance company.
NDIS
Jay can provide services to self-managed and plan-managed NDIS clients. To access sessions under the NDIS you will need to provide an approved NDIS plan (including funding that can be used for psychology sessions) prior to your initial consultation. There is no cost for sessions funded by the NDIS. However, sessions are limited to what is funded under your NDIS plan. Depending on how your plan is set up the cost per session may vary, but most often psychological services under the NDIS are billed at $252.99 per session.* For more information about how to apply for NDIS please visit https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/how-apply. Jay Richards Psychology can assist with an assessment to provide evidence for a NDIS application.
DVA
You will receive a Veteran number and approval from Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) which you will need to supply when booking your initial consultation. For DVA clients, the number of sessions available is unlimited. A claim will be sent to DVA for payment.

Payment
Payment for consultations must be paid for on the day. If you are attending in-person, payment can be made through our EFTPOS machine, with any applicable rebates provided immediately back onto your card. If you attend sessions via Telehealth or phone, you will be prompted to fill out a credit card authorisation form (CCAF) before your first appointment. We will process your credit card payment, and any applicable rebates should arrive back in your account within 2-3 business days.
Cancellation Policy
You will be provided with an email 1 week before your appointment and a text message 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. Please note the date and time of the session in these messages. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so as soon as you can. This will ensure you avoid a cancellation fee and will allow for another person in need to attend during your appointment time.
Please notify us if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment via email or phone at least 24 hours prior to your appointment*. You can also cancel or reschedule your session via our online booking portal within 48 hours of your session.
*Our business days are Monday to Friday, therefore any change to a session on a Monday should be made on the prior Friday.
You will be charged the full fee for the appointment if:
- You do not attend your appointment
- You cancel your session within 24 hours of the appointment
- You cancel your session booked for a Monday late on Friday afternoon or over the weekend
- Your session is booked for the day after a public holiday and you cancel on the public holiday
- Your session is booked for the day after a long weekend and you cancel late on the day before the long weekend
If you arrive late for your appointment, Jay will still need to finish your appointment at the end of the appointment hour to ensure that other clients are not impacted.
